Welcome to Major Engine
Year: 1952

Major Engine Reconditioning began its service to the industry in March, 1952 at Sydney Rd, Coburg. It was a partnership with one shop front. At the start, the only machine was an old hurkes lathe and one new repco boring bar. As time went on more tools were added like the surface grinding machine valve and refacing machine.

The customer base continued to grow. TipTop bakeries, CUB brewing and Smorgon paper were among the Melbourne based companies of the sixties. Bob Jane, Norm Beechey were some of the more colourful characters with interesting stories to tell.

Year: 1964

In the seventies the company employed nine tradesmen and expanded to two shop fronts. And more machinery was purchased. Since 1985, the management undertook giant steps to modernise the company with new machinery.

In 1994 the first page of documenting began to successfully obtain the ISO9002 certificate.

Year: 1970

In 1995 Lloyds quality assurance company granted the ISO9002 certificate, number 400947.

In 1995 we relocated the workshop to larger premises at Campbellfield incorporating a new engine dynamometer to meet extra demand. This enabled us to test engines up to a capacity of 750 horse power, maximising consumer satisfaction.

Year: 1975

In 1999 we established the diesel pump and injector reconditioning room to eliminate down time delay and failure of components. Also in the nineties, MAJOR’S customer base expanded Australia wide. At the same time, we purchased a new camshaft grinder to add to the long line of existing machinery.

Currently we are looking to upgrade the dyno room to have the ability for testing wire controlled electronic low emmission high horsepower engines.

Year: 1987

In the very near future, we plan to set up a new state of the art workshop with two engine testing cells; one with the capacity to test 1,000 hp and the other up to 2,000 hp. These will be totally computer controlled to test running engines.

We also plan to have a chassis dyno to check horse-power and smoke emmission control and to incorporate an apprentice training room for a highly skilled work force.
